And Dior reinvented Versailles

Jul 17, 2016

If all the collections presented this year had a well-defined identity, the one imagined by Dior’s creative studio and its artistic director Victoire de Castellane had that little something extra that really enchanted me.

By going to the Château de Versailles to seek inspiration in the traditional techniques of jewellery making, and more particularly in the methods of manufacturing 18th century pieces, the house asked its jewellers (and all the craftsmen involved in the design of the jewels) to go back to the basis of what makes our professions.

But above all, Versailles, its gilding, its salons en enfilade, its Hall of Mirrors, its gardens and its chandeliers with pampilles. So many architectural and decorative elements that could not fail to give rise to surprising and exciting creations.

The result is two- or three-coloured pieces, and combinations of metals such as gold and platinum. But above all, the real audacity of this opus is to have introduced blackened silver elements on high jewellery pieces, strongly reminding us of the ancient jewels with a patina of time that have come down to us. As for the stones, the house offers a selection of remarkable, extremely colourful centre stones that contrast with the diamonds, giving the pieces a very strong presence. I take you to the discovery of this new collection where we find all the codes of the house Dior for our greatest pleasure!
