Piaget explores the lights of winter

Feb 13, 2019

During fashion week, I had the pleasure and privilege of discovering about ten jewellery collections. It was a short week compared to the long-awaited one in July, but this lighter programme allowed me to concentrate better and take a little more time to explore the new opuses of the houses. Among the absolute favourites, the house of Piaget dazzled us with the latest pieces from the Sunlight Escape collection.

Going out in pursuit of light is no easy task, and sublimating its rarity in winter landscapes was therefore a nice challenge to take up. The Swiss manufacturer has succeeded brilliantly, offering warm, elegant and often unexpected pieces such as the Night Illusion set, which sublimates the northern lights of the Great North.

The full palette of winter colours is on display here: rhodium-plated white gold, opals, diamonds, blue chalcedony, emeralds, sapphires and, of course, the remarkable Palace decoration – the house’s signature – on the incredible Frosted Star cuff. The production of this piece, which took more than 200 hours, demonstrates all the perfection of the gestures of which the craftsmen of the House are capable. A rare piece where the metal is almost more important than the magnificent stones that make it up.

Frosted star cuff in white gold 750 set with a blue sapphire from Madagascar (approx. 5.12 cts), 8 black opals (approx. 0.30 ct), 24 marquise-cut diamonds (approx. 3.36 cts), 56 baguette-cut diamonds (approx. 1.70 ct) and 8 brilliant-cut diamonds (approx. 0.80 ct). Unique creation. Photo : Piaget

The company has also surrounded itself with exceptional external craftsmen, such as Rose Saneuil, whose magnificent work we have already highlighted. Her marquetry of straw, hornbeam and plane tree, created for the Green Aurora pieces, is as unexpected as it is beautiful. They are also refreshingly modern. If the pieces are going to travel, they can also be seen in Paris, so go see them, they deserve it. And if you can, buying one will be your best idea!
